Armstrong was the ninth overall pick in the 1973 draft out of Purdue, as a running back for the Denver Broncos. Armstrong rushed for 1407 yard in 1974 to beat O.J. Simpson for the rushing title. He played for the Broncos from 1973-'80 and was a Pro Bowl selection in 1974 and '76.
