Alzado was a fourth round pick in the 1971 N.F.L. draft by the Denver Broncos out of Yankton College. Alzado played for the Broncos from 1971-'78, the Celveland Browns for two years, and the Los Angeles Raiders from 1982-'85. He played in the Pro Bowl in 1977 and '78; an All-Pro in 1977 and '80; and the 1982 Comeback Player of the Year. Alzado died for brain cancer in 1992 at the age of 43. Alzado, in his final days, attributed his cancer to a career of anabolic steroid abuse.
