Cedric Maxwell

1981 N.B.A. Finals M.V.P.

Boston’s first-round draft pick in 1977, Maxwell became one of the driving forces in the Celtics’ championship runs in 1981 (when he was named MVP of the Finals) and 1984. Maxwell shot an incredible 56.1% from the field over his fine seven-year NBA career, and dipped below the 50% mark just once, in 1982-83 at 49.9%. He finished first in FG% in the NBA twice, in 1978-79, and 1979-80. During his college career, Maxwell averaged 16.3 points and 10.0 rebounds for UNCC. He was named Most Valuable Player of the National Invitational Tournament his junior year while setting the tourney record for the most consecutive free throws (20). His senior year, Maxwell and his 49ers squad shocked the college basketball world by making it the NCAA Final Four, where they were eliminated on a buzzer-beater by eventual champ Marquette.
