A good fielding, weak hitting shortstop, Belanger batted only .228 for his career, but he won seven gold gloves (1971, '73-'78) . He batted a high of .287 in 1969. Belanger played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1965-'81 and 1982 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He died of lung cancer at the age of 54.
