Olinekova won the 1969 Canadian 400 meter championship and later moved up in distance, winning the 1979 New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon in a time of 2:35:12, then the third fastest in history. She set the Canadian marathon record four times between 1977 and 1979. In 1980, she competed as a bodybuilder at the Frank Zane Invitational. Olinekova was the subject of a feature article in Sports Illustrated called "Greatest Legs To Ever Stride The Earth." She was seriously injured in a car accident while training for the 1984 Olympics, an injury which ended her career. She passed away in 2003 after a long battle with breast cancer.
