Riley intercepted 65 passes as a cornerback with the Cincinnati Bengals before retiring in 1983. It remains the fourth-highest total in NFL history. Riley was nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship before the Bengals drafted him in the sixth round of the 1969 NFL Draft out of Texas A & M. Riley played all fifteen of his NFL seasons with the Bengals. He was a second-team All-Pro in 1975 and 1976, led the AFC in interceptions each of his final two season and was an All-Pro in 1983, his final season.
