Vandeweghe participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics in the 100-meter backstroke where she advanced to the semifinals recording a best time of 1:05.0 in the preliminary heats. She is the sister of professional basketball player Kiki Vandeweghe, and the daughter of professional basketball player Ernie Vandeweghe and Colleen Kay Hutchins, the 1952 Miss America.
