Anderson graduated from Augustana College in 1971 and was selected in the third round of the N.F.L. draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played for the Bengals from 1971-'86 and was a Pro Bowl selection in 1975, '76, '81 and '82 at quarterback. In 1981 Anderson led the Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance, en route to winning the N.F.L. M.V.P. and Comeback Player of the Year awards.
