Kyle Rote, Jr. once again used bowling to key a Superstars victory
1977 MEN'S PRELIMINARY 3
For the fourth consecutive year soccer player Kyle Rote, Jr. won his preliminary round. In winning four events, Rote came within two points of the Superstars record of Bob Seagren. The next two places went to Olympic downhill champions with Superstars experience from Europe. Austrian Franz Klammer captured the half mile and the bike race to grab second while Switzerland's Bernhard Russi took third. Russi's performance was even more impressive as he won the obstacle course despite a very sore hamstring. Rain forced the obstacle course to be delayed a day and it was doubtful that Russi would even be able to contend the obstacle course. Unfortunately, neither skiier could compete in the finals due to their commitments on the World Cup skiing curcuit.
