World Middleweight Champion

As an amatuer, Minter captured the Light Middleweight bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics. In 1977, he won the European Middleweight title by beating Germano Valsecchi with a fifth round knockout. Later in the year, Minter lost his European title to Gratien Tonna. He regained his European Middleweight title by knocking out Angelo Jacopucci in the twelth rounds. Jacopucci died a few days after the bout due to injuries sustained during the fight. On March 16, 1980, Minter defeated Vito Antuofermo to capture the World Middleweight Championship, he defended the title against Antuofermo with a eighth round TKO. Minter lost the title to Marvin Hagler on August 27, 1980 when the fight was stopped in the third round due to cuts. He finished his professional career with a record of 39 wins, 9 losses, 1 no contest and 23 knockouts.
