Member of the Basketball Hall of Fame

After graduating from Syracuse, Bing was selected second overall by the Detroit Pistons in 1966 NBA draft and went on to win the 1966'-67 Rookie of the Year. In a decade with Detroit, Bing was a six-time All-Star before being traded to the Washington Bullets in 1975. He was an All-Star again in 1976 and won the All-Star Game M.V.P. award. He closed his career with the Celtics. Following his retirement, Bing opened Bing Steel in Detroit and within ten years became on of the leading African-American businessmen in the country. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1990. In 2009 Bing was elected mayor of Detroit, winning a special election in May and a full-term election in November.
