Buono, who played college football at Idaho State and then ten seasons for the Montreal Alouettes (1973-'82), gained his greatest fame as a coach. He coached for 22 seasons with the Calgary Stampeders and BC Lions, winning a CFL-record 254 games. His teams captured five Grey Cup victories in nine appearances.
