1974 American League Most Valuable Player
Burroughs was the first overall pick in the 1969 amatuer draft by the Washington Senators, and played 16 seasons in the majors with five different franchises. In 1974, he had his best season with the Texas Rangers, he batted .301 with 25 homers and 118 R.B.I., started in the All-Star Game and won the American League M.V.P. Burroughs also played in the 1978 All-Star Game while a member of the Atlanta Braves. He finished his career with 240 home runs and 882 R.B.I. He served as a coach of the Long Beach Little League All-Stars in 1992 and 1993 as his son Sean was the star player and led the team to back-to-back Little League World Series titles (although the first title was awarded later after a team from the Philippines forfeited for using overage players). Sean Burroughs has also played in the Majors.
