Chappell earned 251 caps for the Australian National team between 1971 and 1984, at the time of his retirement he held the record for most catches in Test cricket. In the midst of his career as Australian captain, he joined the World Series Cricket organization. He owns a career test batting average of 53.86. In 2002, he was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
