Charlesworth played cricket for Western Australia from 1972-'79. He played in four Olympic Games for Australia in field hockey (1972, '76, '84 and '88), earning a silver medal in 1976. He led the team to the Hockey World Cup title in 1986. Charlesworth, a doctor, served in the Australian parliament from 1983-'93.
