1984 Pro Bowl Selection

A graduate of the University of New Mexico, Cole played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets in 12 N.F.L. seasons. Cole was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft with the 21st selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a rookie, Cole earned the starting spot at right-side linebacker for the infamous "Steel Curtain" defense, but he broke his right forearm in his first regular-season game Cole returned in eight games and was a fixture at linebacker for the next 10 seasons. Cole started the 1977 AFC Championship game, a loss at Denver. The next two seasons, he played a key role in Super Bowl wins over the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams. Cole also played in the 1984 Pro Bowl.
