Hobbs represented Great Britain in three events at the 1976 Olympics, reaching the quarterfinals in the 100 meters, the semifinals in the 100 meter hurdles and finishing eighth with the 4x100 meter relay. In 1978, she took a silver medal as part of the British 4x100 meter relay team. That same year at the Commonwealth Games, Colyear captured the bronze medal in the 100 meter hurdles and ran the third leg for the English 4x100 meter relay team that won the gold medal. Colyear returned to the Olympics in 1984, advancing to the semifinals in the 100 meter hurdles.
