International Volleyball Association All-Star 1976-'79
Fernandez graduated from the University of Hawaii, helping the team to a national championship runner-up finish behind UCLA in 1973. Fernandez played for several years in the International Volleyball Association, a co-ed professional league. She played for the Los Angeles Stars and led them to a championship in 1975. She played for two seasons with the Santa Barbara Spikers and in 1978 joined the Seattle Smashers and played with Wilt Chamberlain.
