1979 American League Cy Young Award Winner
Flanagan helped the Orioles into the 1979 World Series, going 23-9 with a 3.08 E.R.A. and winning the Cy Young Award.. He finished his career with a 167-143 record in eighteen seasons for the Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. An All-Star in 1978 when he posted a 19-15 record. Following his playing career, Flanagan worked in the Orioles' front office and broadcast booth. He committed suicide by a gunshot to the head at the age of 59.
