Foli was the first overall pick in the 1968 Major League draft, and played 16 seasons at shortstop with the New York Mets (1970-'71, '78-'79), Montreal Expos ('72-'77), San Francisco Giants ('77), Pittsburgh Pirates ('79-'81, '85), California Angels ('82-'83) and New York Yankees ('84). He hit .251 for his career and led the league in fielding in 1980 and '82.
