First Woman to race the Indianapolis 500
Guthrie began racing on smaller circuits starting in 1963, she became a full-time automobile racer in 1972. In 1976, she became the first woman to qualify for a NASCAR race, finishing 15th in the World 600. In 1977, she finished 12th in the Daytona 500, and would race in 33 NASCAR races over the next four seasons, finishing as high as 6th. She raced in the 1977 Indianapolis 500, finishing 29th. Guthrie would race in two more Indianapolis 500's, finishing 9th in 1978. She was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006.
