Four-time World Boxing Champion
Hearns was a world champion as a welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight and light heavyweight. He compiled a pro record of 61-5-1 with 48 knockouts. Hearns was the W.B.A. welterweight champion from 1980-'81 defeating Jose Cuevas, later losing the title to Sugar Ray Leonard in his first defeat. He beat Wilfred Benitez for the W.B.C. light middleweight champion in 1982 before losing the belt to Marvin Hagler in an epic 1985 battle. In March 1987 he defeated Dennis Andries for the W.B.C light heavyeweight title and later in the year he defeated Juan Roldan to take the W.B.C. middleweight title. He lost that title to Iran Barkely in 1988. In 1991, he took the W.B.A light heavyweight belt away from undefeated Virgil Hill.
