Hickey played for the Toronto Toros of the W.H.A. from 1973-'75 and played for the New York Rangers, Colorado Rockies, Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques and St. Louis Blues in a career that lasted until 1987. His best season was 1978-'79 with the Rangers where he scored 34 goals and 41 assists.
