Johnson was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the second round of the 1976 NBA draft out of Pepperdine. In 13 seasons with the SuperSonics, Suns and Celtics, Johnson was selected to five All-Star teams (1979-'82, '85) , nine consecutive All-NBA defensive teams and won three championships. In his four years with Seattle, he helped them win the 1979 NBA Championship and was selected the Finals MVP. Johnson was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1980 and played three years in Phoenix before becoming a member of the Boston Celtics in 1983. He won championships in 1984 & '86 with the Celtics. Upon his retirement, Johnson was only the 11th player to total 15,000 points and 5,000 assists. Johnson briefly coach the Los Angeles Clippers in 2003. He died of a heart attack at age 52 and was posthumously elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
