1972 Olympic Road Race Champion
Kuiper won the 1972 Olympic gold medal in the road race, and then turned professional in 1973. In 1975, he won the World Professional Road Race championship. He was runner-up in the Tour de France in 1977 & '80 and fourth in 1979. Kuiper won the Paris-Roubaix race in 1983 and retired in 1988 after finishing 95th in the Tour de France.
