Lynn broke into the majors in 1974 and the next year became the first player to win the Rookie of the Year and the Most Valuable Player in the same year as he helped lead the Boston Red Sox to the American league pennant. He played for the he Boston Red Sox (1974–80), California Angels (1981–84), Baltimore Orioles (1985–88), Detroit Tigers (1988–89) and San Diego Padres (1990). Lynn was a nine time all-star (1975-'83) and won the Gold Glove in four times (1975, '78-'80). In the 1983, he became the only player to hit a grand slam home run in the All-Star Game and earned game M.V.P. honors. Lynn won the American League batting title in 1979 with a .333 average. Lynn was elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
