1984 Olympic Silver Medalist.

Steve and his twin brother Steve brought U.S. Men's skiing to prominence in the early 1980's. At his first Olympics, he finished 13th in the giant slalom. At the 1980 Olympics, Steve finished 15th in the giant slalom and failed to finish the slalom. He won the 1982 World Championship in the giant slalom and finished third in the World Cup overall that year, having finished fourth in 1980-1981. Steve then joined his brother on the podium in Sarajevo as the two finished with gold (Phil) and silver (Steve) in the slalom, after Steve had led following the first run. Both Mahres retired following the 1984 season.
