Three-time MISL All-Star
Messing graduated from Harvard University in 1973 and in 1972 he was a member of the United States Olympic team. He started one game, a 7-0 loss to the host West Germans. He debuted in the NASL with the New York Cosmos in 1974. The Cosmos cut him after he posed nude for a magazine and was picked up the the Boston Minutemen. Messing later returned to the Cosmos and also played for the Oakland Stompers and Rochester Lancers. He was one of the first stars of indoor soccer as he was selected a three-time (1979-'81) MISL All-Star while playing for the New York Arrows. The Arrows won the MISL championship in each of the first four seasons and Messing was the championship MVP in 1979.
