1972 Olympic Champion

Milburn was undefeated in 1971 and won the Pan American games. Track and Field News selected Milburn as the Athlete of the Year. In 1972, Milburn won the gold medal in Munich, matching the world record at 13.24 seconds. Milburn was ranked number one in the world in 1971, '72 and '73. He made a comeback attempt, but was foiled by the 1980 Olympic boycott, Milburn ranked number 5 in the world that year. Milburn died when he fell into a vat of sodium chlorate while working at a paper plant in Port Hudson, Louisiana. He was 47 years old.
