Four Time Olympic Champion

Making his international debut at the 1973 World Championships, Naber won the bronze medal in the 200 meter backstroke. He failed to qualify for the 1975 World Championships, but the following year made his mark on international swimming. At the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Naber won both the 100 and 200 meter backstroke events in world record times that would last until 1983. he also captured gold medals as a member of the 4x100 meter medley relay and 4x200 meter freestyle relay, as well as capturing a silver medal in the 200 meter freestyle. In 1977 Naber won three gold medals at the Pan American swimming Championships and won the Sullivan Award as the nation's outstanding amateur athlete.
