Ken Norton

Boxing
B: August 9, 1943
W.B.C. World Heavyweight Champion
In 1973, Norton defeated Muhammad Ali to capture the N.A.B.F. Heavyweight title. Norton fought George Foreman for the World Championship in 1974 and was stopped in two rounds. In 1976, he lost a split decision to Ali for the heavyweight championship. In 1978, Norton was named W.B.C. Heavyweight Champion without a title bout as Leon Spinks would not fight Norton for the title and an earlier victory over Jimmy Page was retroactively considered a championship fight. Norton lost the title to Larry Holmes on a split decision and then retired after a first round knockout loss to Gerry Cooney in 1981. He finished his career with a record of 42-7-1. His son, Ken Jr. played in the N.F.L.
