1964 Olympic 800 Meter Champion
In 1962, Packer won a silver medal in the 4x110 yards at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal in the 4x100 meters at the European Championships. At the 1964 Olympics, Packer won a silver medal in the 400 meters and then took a surprising gold medal in the 800 meters. She retired following the Olympics at age 22 and later married silver medalist Robbie Brightwell.
