A native of Sonora, Mexico, Palomino became world welterweight boxing champion on June 22, 1976 against John H. Stracey, and held the crown for three years before losing to Wilfred Benitez. He logged a 31-4-3 professional ring record, with 19 knockouts and seven successful title defenses. Palomino was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2004.
