1976 Olympic Silver Medalist, 4000 Meter Individual Pursuit
Ponsteen competed at the 1972 Olympics as a 19 year old. He was a member of the Dutch team pursuit squad which was eliminated in the quarterfinals. In 1976, Ponsteen captured the silver medal in the individual pursuit, losing to West German Gregor Braun. He once again was a member of the Dutch team prusuit that was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
