Pugh was a eleventh round selection by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1965 N.F.L. draft out of Elizabeth City State and played fourteen seasons with the Cowboys as a defensive tackle. In 1980 he was selected to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
