Five Time Pro Bowl Selection
A two-time All-American linebacker at Michigan State University, Van Pelt was drafted in the second round by the New York Football Giants in 1973 and played 14 years in the NFL (Giants 1973-83, Los Angeles Raiders 1984-86, Cleveland Browns 1986). He played in five straight Pro Bowls from 1976-80. Van Pelt was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and the New York Giants Ring of Honor in 2011. He was found dead of an apparent heart attack at age 57.
