Wathan played ten major league seasons, exclusively with the Kansas City Royals (1976-'85), and later managed the team from 1987-'91, and served as the manager for the California Angels in 1992. In 1982, he set a record for most stolen bases by a catcher in a single season with 36. Wathan finished his career with a .262 average and 21 home runs.
