B: January 22, 1958
1979 Heisman Trophy Winner
White won the Heisman trophy in 1979 while at U.S.C., outpointing defending Heisman winner Billy Sims and helping USC win the Rose Bowl. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round, but drug addiction sent his career into decline. Clean and sober, he resurrected himself and with the Rams in 1987 led the N.F.C. in rushing during the year of the NFL player's strike. He played for the Browns from 1980-'84 and the Rams from '85-'88. White was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
