1974 MEN'S PRELIMINARY 4
The final preliminary round would feature football players as well as boxers, auto racers and an Olympic champion decathlete. With three wins and two seconds, O.J. Simpson dominated the event to win by five points over Miami Dolphin safety Dick Anderson. Franco Harris would remain a consistent scorer to finish third. Interesting is the appearance of South African Formula One driver Jody Scheckter who would win the World Superstars seven years later. Sources disagree on whether Staubach or Scheckter finished fifth in the obstacle course. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune, which was a local paper that covered the event completely, listed Scheckter in fifth place and Staubach with a time five seconds slower than other sources.
