1984 Olympic 1000 and 1500 Meter Champion

Boucher was the runner-up to Eric Heiden at the 1979 and 1980 World Spring Championships and paired with Heiden, took the silver behind him at the 1980 Winter Olympics in the 1000 meters. Four years later, Boucher won the bronze medal in the 500 meters and then captured gold medals in both the 1000 and 1500 meters. He also won his first World Sprint Championship that year. For his efforts, Boucher won the Lou Marsh Trophy as the outstanding Canadian athlete of the year. He continued to compete through the 1988 Olympics in Calgary where his best finish was a fifth place in the 1000 meters. Boucher was named the tenth greatest Canadian athlete of the 20th century.
