1976 Olympic Bronze Medalist - 100 Meter and 200 Meter Freestyle
Brigitha was born in Curacao and moved to the Netherlands as a teenager. She competed as a 17 year old at the 1972 Olympics, qualifying for the finals in the 100 meter freestyle, both backstroke events and both realys but not finishing in the medals. At the 1973 World Championships, Brigitha took a silver in the 200 meter backstroke and a bronze in 100 meter freestyle. She captured three bronze medals in the freestyle events at the 1975 World Championships. Brigitha took bronze medals in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle events at the 1976 Olympics. In her career, Brigitha won 14 medals at either the Olympics, World or European Championships, but never captured a gold. Usually, she finished behind East German swimmers who were later revealed to have taken performance enhancing drugs, Brigitha now considers herself an Olympic champion.
