1976 DUTCH WOMEN'S SUPERSTARS

The first Dutch Women's Superstars was held at the same location as the men's competition and mirrored the events very closely. To no surprise, the long jumper won the 100 meter dash; the speed skater won cycling and the badminton player won table tennis. Ciska Jansen won the 100 meter dash in the same time as the men's winner with 800 meter runner Olga Commandeur finishing second. Olympic speed skating medalist Anje Keulen defeated field hockey player Jose Poelmans in the cycling final. The second place finish gave Poelmans the early lead. In the third event, badminton player Joke van Beusekom easily downed basketball's Carla deLiefede in the final. Keulen's third place finish put her in the overall lead.

The swimming was an interesting sight as for some reason, Commandeur wore a blonde wig with pigtails into the pool. It didn't help her swim fast as Olympic rower Ingrid Dusseldorp cruised to vcitory over Jansen in a time faster than Frank Nusse's winning time in the men's competition. Jansen's second place gave her 19 points and a slim lead. The roller skating was again a bizarre looking event, especially when de Liefde's feet went out from under her as she crossed the finish line first in her heat. Olympic gymnastic Ans Smulders van gerwen used her low center of gravity to power to the win over Commandeur. Halfway through the competition, van Beusekom and Jansen shared the lead with 19 points, with six other women within eight points.

The obstacle course was a curious looking event. Each woman had to do a straddle jump over a vaulting horse; perform a forward roll; run around a potted plant; jump to the top of a platform; around another potted plant; do a crab walk on parallel bars and then traverse a balance beam while performing a 360 degree turn on the beam. Janssen seemed headed to a quick time, but was forced to restart the parallel bars when she mounted past the markfor the beginning to the apparatus. Olympic swimming medalist Enith Brigitha had her best performance of the day, but her time was eclipsed by Keulen, who took the overall lead with her win. Commanduer easily took the long jump by 0.59 meters over de Liefde and moved within one point of Keulen for the overall lead. World cycling champion Keetie van Oosten had managed to finish last in almost all of her events prior to the kayaking, but posted the fastest time to defeat Commandeur and take the event's ten points. When Commandeur won the ninth event by scoring three goals out of five in handball, she wrapped up the overall competition while still just 17 years old.

Witht the overall competition decided, seven women remained in contention for second place. Jansen easily distanced herself from the rest of the field in the 600 meters to take third place overall. Even though Poelmans sprinted past Keulen in the final straight to take second in the race, she had to settle for fourth overall as Keulen's third place finish wrapped up second place in the overall competition.
