1975 European Youth 800 Meter Champion
Commandeur was a competitor in many different events, first gaining prominence in 1975 when she won the European Youth championships at 800 meters. She missed the 1976 Olympics due to injury. Commandeur tried the pentathlon and heptathlon before specializing in the 400 meter hurdles. She ran in that event at the 1984 Olympics, being eliminated in the semifinals. Later, Commandeur became a television personality in the Netherlands.
