Davis played for the New York Cosmos from 1977-8'3. Following his tenure with the Cosmos, Davis played with the St. Louis Steamers of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) from 1983-1987 and with the Tacoma Stars (MISL) from 1987-90. Davis also amassed extensive international experience during his time in the National Team system. Davis played and served as captain for the U.S. National Youth squad from 1976-77. He was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Team (1977-88) serving as captain for the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics. Davis earned a total of 49 caps as a member of the U.S. National Team (1978-90), serving as captain for the majority of his tenure with the squad. He was elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2001.
