1969 & 1971 European Bantamweight Bronze Medalist
Dowling competed at bantamweight, losing in the quarterfinals. After winning bronze medals at the 1969 and 1971 European Championships, he returned to the Olympics in 1972. At the Munich Olympics, he lost a 3-2 split decision in the round of 16 to the eventual champion Orlando Martinez of Cuba.
