1980 and 1986 World 5000 Meter Individual Pursuit Champion
Doyle captured bronze medals at both the individual and team pursuit events at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. In 1980, he was a member of the British team pursuit at the Olympics which finished seventh. He turned professional following the Olympics and captured the World Championship in the 5000 meter individual pursuit that year, a title he would reclaim in 1986. During the 1980s, Doyle specialized in six day races, winning 23 events. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games, Doyle returned to the Commonwealth Games, now open to professionals, and captured a silver medal in the team pursuit.
