In 1973, Ferguson finished second to Larry Mahan as World All-Around Cowboy, then won the title the next six consecutive years, setting a record for most consecutive wins. He was also the 1974 World Calf Roping Champion and the 1977 and '78 World Steer Wrestling Champion.
