Mr. Universe in 1973 and 1974
At age 3, Ferrigno suffered an ear infection and lost 80% of his hearing. He won the Mr. American and Mr. Universe titles in 1973 and Mr. Universe again in 1974. In 1975, he lost to Arnold Schwarzenegger and the competition was documented in the film Pumping Iron. Ferrigno gained fame for portraying the green skinned superhero in the TV series The Incredible Hulk from 1978-'82. He appeared in a cameo part in the 2008 film of the same name.
