A career New York Yankee, "Louisiana Lightning" won 170 games against only 91 losses in a 14 year major league career. His lifetime winning percentage of .651 ranks 27th all-time. In 1978 Guidry won the Cy Young and finished second in the M.V.P. balloting going 25-3 with a 1.74 E.R.A. He won the division playoff against the Yankees, and his .893 winning percentage is the best ever for a 20 game winner. Guidry was a four-time all-star (1978, '79, '82 and '83) and won 20 games three times (21 in 1983 and 22 in '85). He was a member of Yankee World Championship teams in 1977 and '78. His number 49 was retired by the Yankees 2003.
