Jefferson was a running back for the Toledo Troopers of the National Women's Football League from 1972-'79. In 1972 she had 1,388 yard rushing with 32 touchdowns. In 1977 she had 1,824 rushing yards with 35 touchdowns. Jefferson had five straight 1,000 yard rushing seasons and was named Athlete of the Year by Women's Sport magazine in 1975. She was inducted into the American Football Association Hall of Fame in 2002.
